People Development News

Helen Martin, OD Manager, shares some news around people development.

I’m sure it will not come as a surprise that I believe very heavily in the development of people!  At Beech we have many ways in which we continuously seek to learn, develop and improve performance both in a personal and professional context.  We have an entire system set up to engage employees and associates with learning and development activities through the creation of performance objectives, monthly line management feedback sessions and 360 feedback sessions all in line with our competency framework as well as internal and external mentoring, coaching and supervision provision and support for more ‘formal’ training and development programmes.

Just recently, some achievements that I would like to share and celebrate with you are:

  • Vicky Brown, Marketing Executive -  successfully completing a Diploma in Marketing Communications
  • Jill Savage, Associate – becoming an Accredited Coach Supervisor
  • Lizzie Tather, Programme Administrator – completing our Resilient Leader Programme
  • Jenny Venter, Finance Assistant, completing Advanced SAGE Accounts training
  • Peter Blackeby, Senior Performance Development Coach/Facilitator – graduating with the CSA as an Accredited Coach Supervisor
  • Simon Pocock, Consultant – completing the Certificate in Management Consulting Essentials, accredited by the Institute of Consulting
  • Polly Thompson, Executive Assistant – completing our Introduction to Facilitation programme,
  • Helen Martin, OD Manager – completing our Introduction to Facilitation Programme and completing the Certificate in Management Consulting Essentials, accredited by the Institute of Consulting

In what has been and continues to be a challenging financial climate at the moment  - The 2010 Learning and Development Survey from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), reveals that training budgets were cut in more than half of the 700 organisations questioned, it can be tempting to cut back on L&D commitments.

However, a parting thought from John McGurk, the CIPD's learning and talent development adviser, suggests that businesses should and are  “recognising that investing in skills is the best way of capitalising on recovery,"
